Yeah, I can understand your frustration Frank but there is v little EU legally can do apart from bringing infringement proceedings against Hungary via Article 258 TFEU for addressing this. Expulsion is not an option from an EU constitutional point of view.

With the exception of Brexit the EU has always found a way around its rules-based order when needed (allowing Greece and Portugal to join the euro, allowing Denmark and Sweden not to, Ireland’s 2nd referendum, Covid emergency procedures. it could find a way to force Hungary out /2

So we as EU citizen and LGBTQ have no other choice but to accept this. It actually puts me off the EU. Besides this Orban is corrupt to the core. He only wants our EU money. He is pro-Putin. What else does the EU need? It doesn't make me proud to be an EU citizen. It's shameful!

Morally, I agree with you but legally there is no other option than to bring an infringement proceeding. This is the way that the Treaties are drafted as MS considered other options as too significant intrusions on sovereignty. But, yes there are significant limits on what the EU actually can do.

There may come a point of rupture when EU members will need to realise that the treaties are not sufficient to protect the EU from Putin‘s dark shadow. I hope that the people of Hungary (and Slowakia) act before this point.

Suspend, withhold funds, yes. But withdraw and Putin will be tanking down those wide motorways from Moscow
