Hilarious! Asparagus labelled "Not for EU". Also coming from Mexico whilst we grow tons in the EU and could be easily imported by the UK. It's all so fucking stupid.

🚨 “Not For EU” Label. Check your asparagus.
🇲🇽 Mexican asparagus in @sainsburys may be grown with pesticides banned in the EU, including carbofuran and paraquat.
🥵 No EU label = No EU safety standards.
🇬🇧 Post-Brexit, UK rules are weaker.
🧪 Lower testing. Less traceability. More risk.

It can’t be sold in the EU because it was imported into the UK and therefore not subject to the TCA
Spanish supermarkets also sell Asparagus import from Central & South America for much of the year
Webster is correct, of course, the "Not for EU" labelling is to identify produce for the Green lanes (no EU checks/standards) in NI and are not always the same as produce heading for the Red lanes.
UK grown asparagus is the best, but not produced in anything like the quantity to satisfy demand and of course the growing season is very short
I fancied some asparagus for lunch but was too lazy to pick my own so went to the farm shop in town
The only asparagus they had was from Peru 🤷♂️
