Rite Aid on 35th is a shell of its former self. 75% of the shelves are empty and it is frequently out of basic things like safety pins or face wash. The pursuit of shareholder value drove drug stores into the ground.

Katterman's is a 10 minute walk from the neighborhood center site.

Fortunate for an actual neighborhood pharmacy. Where I live there had been three pharmacies in walking distance. Now all, including Roosevelt Bartell's, have closed. All of those Roosevelt customers' records were sent to the U Village Bartells. You can see where I'm going with this...

PBMs have absolutely taken over the pharmacy business and shuttered local pharmacies. But it's also because more and more consumers prefer to get their medicines by mail. It doesn't make sense to orient local land use policy around that.

U Village still even has a pharmacy at QFC!

? Yes, and now the long lines from Bartell's will be at the QFC. Drugs by mail don't help when you need antibiotics today, or to talk to a pharmacist. Also...for all intents and purposes, pharmacies are where people have to go for immunizations. MD offices often don't even carry them. I would say

that pharmacies are an essential part of health care infrastructure, and that they have nothing to do with "land use". Anyway, my main point is there is only one damn store in U Village that is actually practical for everyday use and that is the QFC.
