If I've learned one thing over the years is that nothing sparks opinions™️ between developers as much as timezones 😅

And different jurisdictions making up their own rules about summer time. And, of course, local taxes...

I never understood these debates tbh. Just store UTC in the DB and live a peaceful life 🧘♂️

Sincere! UTC as a source of truth in the DB and display localization done by a time zone column on the user table.

I guess, in my experience, storing dates and times is only a small fraction of the story (and even there, timezones aren't 100% straightforward).
When is 2am?
There are so many different ways to answer that question, and many of the different answers are correct in different circumstances…

What if the user and the person asking the question are in different timezones?
What if the user is traveling?
What if it's DST?
What if the user and the person asking are in the same UTC offset but one is DST and the other isn't?

My favorite thing about Timezones is on a Microsoft platform where you have to convert UTC to GMT or it throws errors when you try to use the datetime

I lost a few hours recently to one system being in PST and another being in UTC when hunting for a bug without any timezone labels.
