Legal in Scotland. In most of England & Wales a landowner can ask you to move on and I recommend you do (though has never happened to me). Police won’t get involved as trespass is a civil matter, not a crime.

Since 2003 Scotland has had a truly excellent Right of Responsible Access to the outdoors.
