It's cheating a bit but all the runtime comes from the black bits. You can check if it's within a certain boundary and just mark it as "converged.

Also do like 4 iterations at once without branching.

With Embedded Swift to be precise. Yes. :)

There’s even a OS project called PlaydateKit to automate mostly the build process.

So if you don’t have a Playdate yet and want one here’s your excuse. 😅

So what’s the end goal, games? Presumably you can’t use SpriteKit, GamelayKit, SwiftUI and other frameworks.

Games, yes. You only have the Playdate SDK and it’s functionality. It is 2D game oriented. (sprites, collision detection, synthesizing sounds, …)
