In 2010, I wrote an impassioned email to the then-CEO of the board, explaining how the convention meant so much to me and I wanted to come back but couldn’t afford the flight because of college.

He wrote back and *publicly paid for it* so I could go.

That’s the Anime Expo I remember from long ago.
