if he has to spend time with them he goes without his knee brace and makes a point to tell them “yeah i have a bad knee” just like to give them an advantage over him if they need it. obviously he doesn’t want to hurt them but like just in case he snaps, yknow.

i could also definitely see Ed very anxious around the idea of the kids “being in trouble” and even hiding things from Stede reflexively because he’s subconsciously afraid of what’s going to happen. what does discipline look like? wpuld Stede yell? would things feel weird between everyone? etc.
