I think they envisioned individuals or small groups, not the plurality or majority of society, and certainly not militant. Also not the most powerful people in the society, they assumed those would be rational people doing the enforcement.

A good 30% or more don't give a fuck about anything that matters, and the % that don't back fascists have to actually be willing to do something in numbers that matter, so yeah I definitely think they're the plurality, and you aren't addressing the people with actual political and financial power.

What’s happening to Teslas, what’s happening to Maga Supporters is called enforcing the social contract and social shame. And especially at scale Shame actually does work against some of these forces especially the ones that haven’t solidified fully behind fascism. We need to be worse.
