Took another stab at getting the TP-Link Kasa smart plugs (HS103) to work with #homeassistant. Failed again. Regret buying these. Seems TP-Link killed local support and their cloud setup is painful. Will try the ikea Inspelning and Tretakt ones next

I have Kasa plugs, and they are local control. You need to set it up with the app, then use the Home Assistant integration to control them locally. YMMV
Apparently depends on generation and firmware. TP-Link killed local control on a bunch for "security reasons". I've set them up in the app, but they're not directly accessible by HA on the local network. Looking at downgrading firmware to last usable
