The thing with the fig eating bat is to my knowledge they were only captured a handful of times, and one of these times it had fig in its mouth. But does it eat anything else? We just don't know! Which is so interesting to me.

That's not only really amusing, but it also shows the problems science faces when evidence is limited. Not knowing is what drives humanity forward, and the do-they don't-they eating habits of the fig eating bat are just one small piece in a giant jigsaw puzzle. It doesn't get much better!

Kind of fun fact, while painting this I mistakenly misread the species name and originally painted the wrong coloration, and had to darken it. Made me think of coloration in terms of patterns of melanin expression. And how small changes in expression can result in significant visual changes
