During the 90s, there was a series called Legends of the Dark Knight that did some fantastic, mostly self-contained Batman stories by top creators. Lots of those stories have been collected. I recommend Gothic, Shaman, Prey, & Venom

You could also check out Chip Zdarsky's run on Batman, that starts with Batman #125 and is ongoing (most recent issue is #153) and there are three trade paperbacks out with more to come next year

For Batman, you could check out Ram V's run on Detective Comics. He recently finished it, it spans from #1062-1089, and it's collected in five trade paperbacks (or at least it will be, the last two will be released at the end of 2024 and early 2025)

Wow that sucks. I’m sorry that happened. maybe it would be less stressful to have something specific picked out beforehand? I get too shy to ask for recommendations from the clerk… like Batman&Robin Year One is a recap of their early issues and that just came out yesterday. That’s prob like $5 maybe

honestly, IME, things like spoilers are not that important since a lot of things are either retconned or abandoned in other continuities. I think jumping in (1/2)

I think a great start with Batman is New 52, it's easy to get in to and DC Universe Infinite has I believe just about everything from New 52.
