I adored In Other Waters so much. I sing its praises whenever I can. I think it handles information so beautifully. It’s pretty genius for a game that’s pretty linear. You and your team do a lot with the central conceit. Glad I went in blind

Curious question though, did you write a larger world setting from which you sliced this part?

Not exactly, but building the ecosystem did have to start at the world scale for it all to make sense, so I guess there is a larger fuzzy world, and then it comes into focus the more you zoom into the specific regions the game takes place in!

In Other Waters was the surprise release that got me through the early NZ Covid Lockdown, the vibe was perfect to counteract the worry and uncertainty of that world. Even today the soundtrack is one of my WFH standards since it was on loop the first time I was working from home for a long period.

Meanwhile you can get the game on Steam or Switch, and help Ellery Vas explore an alien ocean. It probably has the most extensive taxonomy ever featured in a videogame!
