After becoming a huge fan of L&C through Plantagenet, this one is also very high on my list. Have you played both and can draw comparisons?

Hi there! Yes I've played both. Plantagenet is overall a gentler introduction into the system. Almoravid adds Sieges and everything that comes with it: Withdrawal to Castles, Sally, Relief Sally, and Storm (new type of Battle, w/ fixed number of rounds depending on siege state and walls protection)

Also, the Taifas (provinces) political overlay - even though one player is the "Muslims", they were not monolithic.
To handle this and still be a 2p game, there's a range of "independent" taifa (aligned to Muslims), "Parias" taifa (aligned to Christians) and "Reconquista" (fully taken by Christians)

Those are the two main differences that I recall. Overall I vastly prefer Almoravid - once you've paid the steeper learning cost, there's so much richness and texture to explore and play with. Also, the historical setting interests me much more, so that's another strong reason!

Sounds amazing and like something I definitely would enjoy.
Think from a complexity point of view "Nevsky" would be the logical next game to get, then "Almoravid" and "Inferno" supposedly is the most complex one, right?

I would say so, but really I think all of the 3 are quite similar in terms of complexity. If any of them are more complex than the others, it's by like 10% or less.
