It's time for #OralHealthWithNisha!
This week:
X-ray! X-ray! Read all about it!
You've probably had X-rays done before, but did you know there's different types of imaging that can be done?
Come along with me! 🧵

Dental X-rays create images by emitting electromagnetic radiation from a source such as an X-ray tube head and having the beams either pass through soft tissues or bounce off tissue like bone and enamel.
Fillings, implant screws and GP will also show
Intraoral refers to images taken inside the mouth (when you typically bite on something)
Extraoral, as you might guess, are taken outside your mouth.
You may also hear these called "cavity checks", as these help us see if there's any signs of decay in between your back teeth.
You get these once a year, at your cleaning appointment.
These show us everything from the crown of the tooth all the way to the root tip, called the Apex.
If something is going on deep inside the tooth, we'll see it.
These are bite plates that show the entire upper or lower jaw, and show us teeth that have yet to erupt.
These can be kind of wild to look at with all those unerupted teeth!
One other thing I didn't mention is a combination of bitewings and periapicals that is done every 3 to 5 years is called a full mouth series, or FMS.
I jokingly call this one the photoshoot, as anywhere from 16-20 X-rays are done!
