There was so much to explore, especially wrt violence as both physical and emotional safety. I, uh, was not expecting to land on "Ed didn't know people under his command didn't love being chased with knives, and it'll be sorted if 'father figures; tell him when to start and stop being violent."

we see him being violent & callous & joking about it one minute and the next he’s having a cry in the bathtub and it’s all so disjointed that either we have to do all the legwork on it as viewers or we have to forget about things that literally happen on screen

As someone with BPD, I don't necessarily find it as disjointed as I do unexplored. Ppl contain multitudes & I think ppl with BPD struggle to reconcile that. There's deffo a way he could engage with all aspects of his personality healthily, but he'd have to learn to do so, which... we got s2 instead

Yeah that's a good point, & it's what annoyed me about the season so much! They just don't do a good job at showing us *how* he does contain all this & he's not allowed to productively work through any of it. It's such a shame because it could've been such an interesting character analysis

What's Izzy done equivalent to burning a boat of people alive, cutting toes off for fun, making Fang kill his dog, torturing & disabling his best friend, getting crew killed on whims, making crew fight to the death etc? Real question. Izzy's not even there for turtle vs crab lol (so idk about that)

Izzy has a strong code of conduct, accepting Stede's compromise when bested, whinging abt unprofessionalism, offering to duel rather than slit Stede's throat in the night etc. He kills people in raids as a pirate for money. He's annoyed when crew are killed senselessly. Won't let Ed hurt the crew.

That's not to say Izzy doesn't like/enjoy violence; Izzy still thinks Ed hung the moon & stars, w only occasional reservations abt how he's acting. He happily engages in minor corporal punishment to keep crew in line. His unhinged reaction to Ed cutting his toe off says a lot.

Mmm, if you squint at the word gentleman maybe. Gentleman applied to Stede & gentleman applied to Izzy are 2 separate definitions, unless you hc "Izzy is from the upper class", which I deffo do not & I believe is backed by canon. Ik what she's saying. There's quite a bit ungentlemanly about him too
