I really want to have more bookshelves so that I can keep expanding my library. I have 0 carpentry skills/experience but I want to learn to build basic furniture like the IKEA kallax. Someone please share high school shop class homework because I took drama and philosophy instead. 😭 - ThreadSky

Bookshelves are in principle pretty easy. Take wood, make a big square/rectangle with right angles and screw them together. Then take a piece of wood that fits inside the box and screw that in. You'll want to drill pilot holes, which is just drilling a hole a little smaller than the screw.

There's all sorts of math that goes into it, and you'll need to get it cut down to the right shapes, but there's tons of tutorials out there and bookshelves are a GREAT first project for learning woodworking because of how simple they are overall.

Don't forget that making things from scratch is something that takes lots of practice and tools, that you may or may not have. Just grab an ikea flat pack ❤️

We have the tools, my husband is an OK jack of all trades with no formal training or specialization and we both have intense ADHD and autism so, he IS capable, but tips/tricks would make it much easier

-Always go with practical rather than pretty.
-Ask as many questions at the hardware store as you like the staff are there to help, if they aren't helpful go somewhere else.
-Watch some tutorials online, there are so many that will explain it so much better then I can
