I'm not a big mac user, but from what I heard any model from the past 6 years or so will work mostly just as well as the modern ones, except if you do renders on your mac for example. That said, a big advantage of old models is the intel chips, meaning you can dual boot and have windows, too.
which to be honest i wish i had, I find the walled garden approach of Apple to be a bit too restrictive; esp since a lot of animation apps are windows-exclusive or even just small scripts people do.
