But that's part of it. What has always slowed down any US trend to leave Euro-NATO is the idea that it would make Europe much less secure.

If an EU Army promises to help with that, then NATO disappears quicker.

There's no way of knowing... Trump might or might not be happier with a Europe that paid its own bills

But the point is simply that Europe can not rely on the US, and hence a European defence capability is required. Otherwise we will simply be blackmailed by Trump

You have no idea, but the price he is trying to extort from Ukraine suggests that's very unlikely

And the only solution is to build a stronger European capability - something we now have to do anyway.
