On February 12, 1984, the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar died. When I think of him, his extraordinary story "The House Taken Over" (1946) comes to mind. It tells of two siblings living in a grand mansion, gradually overtaken by an unseen entity until they are forced out without putting up a fight.
