In 2003, Funimation released the "Saga Sets" DVDs. Due to some licensing shenanigans, the first uncut volume (with JP and ENG audio) is volume two, the "Tournament Saga". 15 episodes across a two disc set.

The video quality is... not great. The image is rather blocky and shows heavy artifacts. The video is interlaced and has been de-interlaced using MPV for these screenshots. The opening does not have the credits text as part of the video.

In 2004, Japan had their own version of Dragon Ball, the Dragon Boxes. All 153 episodes across 26 DVDs, Japanese audio only.

This version maintains the credits in the opening. The video is now progressive and has better detail than the saga sets. You can also see a little more of the image. Unfortunately, the colors aren't that great and usually have a yellow or green tint.

In 2009, Funimation released the "Blue Bricks", their remaster of Dragon Ball. This version has five boxes for all episodes with English and Japanese audio. Unlike their "orange bricks" for DBZ, the aspect ratio was maintained.

The video quality is generally fine for progressive-video DVD. However, the image tends to appear a bit soft, the colors are still a little tinted, and the video is sometimes cropped even more than the saga sets. There are no credits in the opening.
