2nd question on this Guardian article: 41% of the polled Brits want to accept the European Court of Justice as a condition for freedom of movement of EU citizens in the UK and UK citizens in the EU. Is it correct that Labour's position and British public opinion in fact differ little on FOM?

It's because there are also "don't know" choices.

Of those who expressed any sort of opinion one way or the other, a majority wanted closer relations.

(The assumption presumably is that "don't know" people aren't opposed to the idea, even if they're not openly seeking it out either.)

I'm quite willing to assume that. But the Guardian article does not explain what the 'don't know' percentage is. And it is indeed an assumption. It could also mean X% of Germans, Poles, etc. have had their fill of the British and their Brexit. 'Don't know' meaning 'completely uninterested'.

I asked a question about a Guardian article on an (at the time) unpublished report. Obviously I didn't speak on behalf of all Germans or Poles.
Fact: Most EU citizens are completely uninterested in Brexit or like me fed up with British demands for EU solutions on problems Brits created themselves.

Well you are clearly interested in it. It is all you comment about. Why not concentrate on the EU specific topics like democracy in Hungary. Let the relatively new UK govt start to rebuild trust with the EU on shared interests without sniping on every point.

The Guardian did not explain because I think they expect you to draw conclusions and work something out for yourself. That some don't knows are actual don't knows and some are don't care etc.

The Guardian article doesn't even mention there was a 'don't know' categorie in this polling question to EU citizens. And the ECFR report was not online early this morning. Now it is. I downloaded and have read the ECFR report. I will draw my conclusions from this report.

Lib Dems and Greens were very quiet during the election about Europe as they knew how toxic an electoral issue it is. They rely on attracting Conservative voters fed up with their party banging on about it.
