If you want to turn off Gmail's AI features, go into Settings then in the General tab, scroll down to "Smart features and personalization" about half-way down and untick the box next to "Turn on smart features and personalization". That should grey out all the other AI-related options on the page. - ThreadSky

Annoyingly, they bundle it with all the other stuff – some of which I find useful, like autocompleting the name of the person I'm writing to.

You could instead switch off all the individual AI options you don't want to use? I think there are half a dozen or more on that same General tab of Settings.

I tried all this – it disables Gemini, but doesn't stop Google showing me the icon, or suggesting it all the time! All it does is tell me it’s turned off when I accept the suggestion to use it :)

Maybe it’s time to accept the inevitable and accept its unhelpful and blandly written suggestions :)
