Scrapping Tory EHCP might not be such a bad idea. EHCPs deliberately designed designed to cut central education spending. They are cumbersome, uncoordinated (each LA has own paperwork) favours those with the money and support to sue LA who are insufficiently funded to pay for tribunals.

It’s usually just a journalistic devise for creating a more sensational story where one really doesn’t exist.

The suggestion frequently doesn’t lead anywhere and is quietly dropped.

Our Labour MP seems very pro-active in regards to SEN. The system does need reform, including a massive injection of money into the system for training and support etc. There also needs to be seamless transition support for SEN kids when they become adults to aid in employment and social support.

I really hope this isn't true, I worked with children with special needs, extra support is essential it provides them with so many new opportunities and gives them the confidence to meet the challenges they face. Our educational system is there to provide every child with the opportunity to succeed

I did wonder, I have noticed recently Labour have been restructuring policies relating to educational support, most which appear to be positive, regardless of what the right wing media might suggest. I think Labour needs to be clearer in their responses.

The echp system is terrible and needs replacing. Having gone through it, and unlike so many others, able to afford an education lawyer, I had to sue a county council to get a result. 3 years of hell to prove what people knew. No one should have to do that. So I sincerely hope it is reformed.

My kid is send. I'm not sure that this article is actually right. If they replace the broken system with a working system that serves the child's needs and education... I have no issue. But if it's right... Abandonment isn't within the equality act, autism act or children's acts...

There's some misinterpretation going on here - I can see how this could be misinterpreted when taken out of context.

I'm not sure they've said they're getting rid of EHCPs and not replacing them, but the top of the article may lead people down that path.

Upon reading this article, Labour have not said they're scrapping support for SEN kids, they're reforming support, which is overdue (my eldest had an EHCP, which wasn't worth the paper it was written on)

This is what is really annoying me about the press at the moment. If Labour say ‘this system isn’t working, so we are going to try and change it’ it’s negatively reported as cutting things completely, long before the full details are announced, so everyone hates it before they even know what it is.

I provided support under Statements and EHCP - introduction of EHCPs was a farce. Each Local Authority setting out own paperwork then funding from ever diminishing council budgets. Needs radical change and radical funding.
