Maybe it's done to try and beef up the suit but from all accounts I've heard if he had just filed the paperwork for workers comp or gone to TK or even Mox and been like hey that spot was a little more than I expected and I think I'm going to need surgery it would have been taken care of.

This is my main thing. TK, by all accounts, is portrayed regularly as a very kind and generous person. - If someone was unexpectedly injured on his watch, I HIGHLY doubt his reaction would be anything other than "we'll take care of you".

I think the guy might have been nervous to say something in the moment and then it became a bigger problem in his head the longer he didn't say anything and now feels like it needs drama to be believable. He'll get his money but this is going to make any wrestling company nervous to hire him.
