my partner helps run a buynothing group, do you happen to know of any alternatives people are going to in order to avoid facebook? it's one of the few things that is actually difficult to leave behind. Feel like the problem is convincing people already in the group to go to a different place
The fee is only suggested; you don’t need to pay. Few posting in my area (FB group is very active) but I’m going to post this app link a lot on the FB group to get people to move
I am. The app functions well, though I don’t get much use out of it. I’m in an exurban area, and most people either haven’t heard of it or are unable/unwilling to drive too far for something unless they really need it to use or sell. (Think appliances, mobility aids, etc.)
Unfortunately the app is nothing like the community that many of us have built within BNG groups—which is *supposed* to be the point of Buy Nothing; it’s not just Freecycle 2.0. If all you’re using it for is getting/rid of stuff, then I’m sure it’s fine. I want it to work as well, but it doesn’t.
Ha, I was just coming to say this, but you beat me to it. I’ve been thinking about talking with my admins and seeing if we can go to Discord, or something.
I've set up a group on Discord for my close friends so we can help each other out in the years ahead. Nothing wrong with setting up communication networks any way you can!
Yep! I have had more luck with Freecycle in my area, though your results may vary. They also have an app, if that makes things easier for people. It’s called Trash Nothing. https://trashnothing.com
Do you have a local freecycle? Or community posting/message board? Craigslist? In VT we have front porch forum where posts like this are common. There has been a shift back towards early aughts message board sites.
