🧵 Dismantling of USAID was happily exploited by pro-Russian disinfo network (Matryoshka).
With at least 11 fake videos impersonating world's respected media, posted Feb 3-5 on 𝕏.
One of those videos got retweeted by Elon Musk and DonaldJTrump Jr to a record-setting 13M views.

#ElonMusk is a good example what damage comes as owner/influencer.

The fake video RTed by Elon and Trump Jr is straightforward:
USAID allegedly paid for celebrity visits to Ukraine aimed to facilitate its fundraising from the West:
$20M to Angelina Jolie
$5M to Sean Penn
$1.5M to Jean-Claude Van Damm
$8M to Orlando Bloom
$4M to Ben Stiller
Both Ben Stiller and a spokesperson of E!News (which was impersonated in the video) claimed the video and its allegations to be fake.
As an owner of the platform, Elon Musk could prevent such incidents altogether with Community Notes:
As Matryoshka post ↙️ appeared on 𝕏 few minutes before Musk's RT ↘️, the video could be auto-labelled as misleading based on a Matryoshka data feed from us.
From Kremlin's standpoint, even a few videos like this getting viral per year is why Matryoshka is worth every dollar spent on it.
How rare is that? The previous record-setting episode was 27 Aug 2024: a single Matryoshka / Storm-1679 post reached 7.8M views.
Apparently, even RT_com realized 1 hour after Musk's repost that the video narrative is "too good to be true" (in its own sense).
