Most definitely HLA. You don't retcon one of the biggest cliffhangers in media history, let alone gaming history, and then pretend like that didn't happen. Valve was making a statement with that ending.

The game will probably happen in distant future, so that they can exist independently just like hl1 and 2 were. The intro would probably be unique, perhaps Gordon having a nightmare of what happen in the ending of EP2 with Gman suddenly "nudging" it to follow HLA instead.

That would be a huge letdown. Valve teased a scenario where Eli, Gordon and Dog team up to track down Alyx and the Gman. I want to experience that plot thread, not have it handwaved in a time skip.

Seems like they're still working a lot on physics stuff, makes me think that it's unlikely that they'll announce anything about half life soon.
