As in, Covid - the gift that keeps giving? The acute respiratory phase no longer troubles me for most patients. It’s the long game, and that’s what I try to educate about re: staying up to date with vaccines, antivirals, and masking when personal social penalty is acceptable to you! ✈️

It’s remarkable that, beyond vaccination, this article makes no mention of avoiding infection or limiting the # of infections an individual has. I know that most ppl are unable to withstand the stigma associated with wearing masks, but atm, avoiding infection is the best way to avoid COVID sequelae

I’m in primary care and have both patients and friends with new AFib - then after getting diagnosed with COVID.
Most now have prolonged Atrial Fibrillation.

Early in the pandemic I saw new IDDM; most of those patients have recovered islet cell function.

I’ve also seen encephalitis.

Cardiac symptoms were my main issue. Docs couldn’t figure out why it happened, and eventually sent me for flow therapy as a last ditch effort. It’s what ended up working and getting me back on my feet.

The depressing thing over here in the UK is that organisations that should really be on top of this - the British Heart Foundation for example - have really pulled back from actually being clear on what the danger of continuous infection with Covid is.

My husband had a stroke last year. A doctor whom we never met called and asked if he had Covid recently, which he had 3 months earlier. He said they were seeing an uptick of ppl who had a stroke within months of Covid. Now, he was also a 50+ yr smoker, so def that's in the mix as well.

One big reason to protect #pre-existingconditions. If payors can link myriad long term conditions of the heart, GI tract, autonomic nervous system and more to a past COVID infection, it will be an excuse to deny coverage. MMW.
