They are now telling women, especially older women, not to drink even one drink as it raises their risk for breast cancer. That’s new within the last couple of weeks.

Yes, that was my view too, that every bit of alcohol is harmful. I'm trying to understand why no alcohol causes dementia in the same way as four alcoholic drinks. 😅

If there was a test you could take that tells whether or not you have a likelihood of getting dementia or Alzheimer's in your old age, would you really want to know? If it said you would then on the one hand you could start to plan. On the other hand, how would knowing that affect your mental state?

Just to play devil's advocate, the mind can be convinced of crazy stuff. For example sugar pill placebos work because the unknowing mind believes they will. One could convince themselves they are getting dementia from such a test before they may get it otherwise. I don't think I would want to know.

This appears flawed. It identifies people who are already disabled (zero light or moderate physical activity), a group that is clearly at risk for dementia or already affected. On the other hand, it fails the harder and more important task of significantly distinguishing amongst everyone else.

Indicates that one glass of wine is healthy, actually....which has been the conventional wisdom. I thought that had been dispelled by more recent studies. Guess that's still in the 🤷‍♂️category.

That's got to be it.

My 1st guess is lying on the survey.

2nd is lots of poor people can't afford alcohol and are unhealthy in general

3rd is night shift workers who have terrible sleep patterns and their schedule prevents social drinking

I don't drink at all because alcohol triggers migraines. A history of migraines also significantly raises your risk for dementia.

There are a number of medical conditions that make drinking unpleasant/impossible that also are associated with elevated risk of dementia. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have some people in my life who suffer from migraines, I wonder if they are aware of this.
