BMI is handy to have as a quick reference however, because while it doesn't work for athletes, or people who are either taller or smaller than average, it's a pretty good tool to reference.

Current measures of health such as BP do not necessarily reflect future values. For example heavier people tend to get osteoarthritis more as they age. OE tends to be associated less activity and therefore poorer health measures.

Never liked it lol. I am 5-7 and 30.1 BMI - so I am obese by this standard. Meanwhile I have 15% bodyfat and can still hit PB's at 55 yrs. It doesn't delineate between fat and muscle.

Same. Normal is defined to be 65kg (!!). To get to that level you there would have to hit 0% body fat, otherwise you’re overweight. It is total nonsense.

It’s not just athletes though. Anyone with a stocky build (broad, barrel chested) to get out of “overweight” > 25 bmi, would actually have to lose musculature.
