In the '90s I worked for a Silicon Valley Dept of Defense supplier. A lot of engineers & support staff had to have Top Secret clearances, including myself the cost accountant.

Several of my friends had trouble getting clearances.

Another failed on the background check because he tried lots of recreational drugs.

A third failed his background check because of more than 1 DUI.

I can't imagine persons who are proud racists getting cleared.
