Never really took much stock in arguments about high school sports fairness on the athlete level, in part because in New Mexico kids from all over have to contend with students at Los Alamos High, who live and train at over 7,000 feet above sea level, are all well off, and have nothing else to do.

....when I was still skating derby it was fun as hell to descend a few thousand feet and suddenly be the team that never tired, though.
some schools in the league gave scholarships to athletes, ours didnt. so that sometimes meant 30-0 baseball scorelines because a bunch of prep school nerds were facing future MLB #2 overall pick BJ Upton
