This is wild. Polish rail equipment manufacturer effectively making their equipment pretend to be broken when it goes in for its maintenance window. Hackers working for the vendor running the repair concession figured it out.

The obsolescence happens if you stay too long in a NonApproved™ Train repair station. It counts the days the GPS location has been in specific parcels of land
Not "non-approved"; just not their own service department, which did lose the tender against a third-party maintenance provider. So, very childish behavior, and it should be the end of NEWAG in the market…
It's like if you took your car to an independent mechanic (who has all the certifications & equipment to work on your car) for maintenance & the manufacturer (Toyota/Ford/GM) has code installed that bricks the software in the car because the trouble codes weren't read in a dealership shop location.
I mean... the original goal was almost certainly "yes, it's so mysterious that nobody else can fix our equipment. I guess you'd better keep giving *us* the maintenance contracts if you want your trains to keep running."
*almost* have to admire the audacity of that grift but i've worked with too many "indispensable" developers and have loathed every single one because of their territorial gatekeeping
