Watching a flock of cormorants going to roost is a humorous but terrible experience. That's because they roost in trees, but their webbed feet prevent them from grasping branches. I once happened to be by a clump of trees where a flock started coming in to roost.

More often than not the birds would land on a branch only to tumble off the other side. Sometimes they would attempt to land on a lower branch as they fell, sometimes they would fly off for another try, and sometimes they would fall all the way to the lake or ground.
