I used to fly charters for a company called Sunrise Airlines out there. we flew out of Las Vegas to Provo, Moab and a couple of other airports near the Grand Canyon. it was some very fun and beautiful flying. our 'group' ended up taking them over and moved ops to Venice FL.

If you haven't done the horse ride I highly recommend it, the trails you get to ride on in the park are spectacular. Also you can hike the same ones on foot, except for the first part which is horse only.
Seeing this image reminds me a lot of this other, very famous Roman gold mine from ancient times in the North of Spain. It is known that they extracted more than 400 tons of gold in 500 years, which they always sent to Rome. Las Medulas, Spain

This is taken near there. Outside Moab on the Colorado River. I was on a solo five state trip that took me to the top of Pikes Peak in the rig I built.
