Performative gestures have power. At least 2016&2024 would indicate that. And the history of the world. We need both and more kinds of actions to challenge & change this wrecking ball.

Yeah, they do have power. Relying on them alone or primarily is a bad strategy. The Civil Rights movement wasn’t successful because MLK gave a speech or marched. There was a lot of pressure & policy proposals aimed at elected leaders. Dems focus way too much on gestures with no follow through.

What did this accomplish? There was no real follow through. Within a year, Biden was slamming #defundthepolice bragging about increasing funds. Dems turned their backs on BLM carrying water for MAGA anti “woke” talking points. But they did a gesture that made white NPR listeners feel good.
