Context: when I grew up in Germany, military service was still mandatory for men. I felt that it was really invasive for one's life and have been strongly against it (it was suspended there shortly after). But now I can see the point! US military composition is not exactly politically balanced, huh?
Look at Finland. They never dropped conscription and maintain a relatively stable society. Although I think we’ve yet to discover a complete antidote to what social media does.
Not sure what you mean but at the moment I’m worried about Trump-supporters being sufficiently over-represented in the U.S. military that the military would side with Trump in the event of a unconstitutional Executive Branch takeover of the other branches (an event that is currently happening).
Same here… I’m trans and really starting to consider applying for refugee status somewhere. It’s a weird feeling being the target of a genocidal regime and I don’t like it.
I've been telling everyone I love, everyone I care about, that the moment we've been warning about isn't "coming". We're not "ramping up to it". We're here. Anyone who denied it until now and didn't prepare, no longer has time.
It seems to me that in countries with conscription the officer core usually sets the political direction for the military and conscripts just follow orders.

"how about we teach this thing in the way that all the students said would've helped? move this class before the other?"
"how about you shut up you big dumb idiot"
I suspect that would reduce the resilience to capture because only the smaller officer class matters.
