I had a PC with a turbo button. Like why wouldn't you just leave it press in THE WHOLE TIME? "Oh I feel like playing Doom at 10fps, I'll unpress the turbo button"

It's like NOS in The Fast And The Furious series. It needs to be used sparingly, or the engine explodes.

But seriously - to play older games, that ran too fast on the new processors. There was no standard throttling or speed control from the software side.
