The whole of Lobsinger Line from the market up to Stemmlers in Heidelberg is one big local supermarket. Martin’s apple farm, the poultry place, loads of farms selling all kinds of goodies. If you have access to a car, you live in the breadbasket of Ontario. Take advantage! Even with no tariffs. 😉

2/The easiest thing to switch up is eating out. If you're a caffeine junkie and can ditch Starbucks/Tim's, try the following:
-Lucero (DTK)
-Matter of Taste (DTK)
-Lucero (kitchener GOAT)
-Pilot (Uptown, chain, but Cdn owned + my personal fave)
-Poppy's Bagels (yes, their coffee is that good)

For coffee: Whoopsie Daisy in DTK, right at the intersection of Victoria/King. Also price listed + tax is what you pay, they don’t take tips to keep pricing transparent.

3/If you're in the mood for chain restaurants (ie you want a big menu and are unsure of the ownership of the big chains) eat at Charcoal Group places. They are based here, employ hundreds, and their menus have expansive vegan/veg/allergen sensitive options.

4/Want a burger but don't want to go to McDonald's? Go to The Lab Street Eats. As for other options, there's hundreds of great local spaces and there's no sense covering them all. You can eat the world in DTK, Uptown, and the University neighbourhoods (do *not* sleep on those spots)

5/Want local seafood? Caudle's Catch or T&Js. Butchers? ForeQuarter and Victoria Street Market. Baked goods? The Bakery at Waterloo city hall (nb: fantastic if you have dietary restrictions). Also, Golden Hearth, Aura-La, Crushed Almond, etc.

6/Groceries: Vincenzos is pricey but you will find independent Canadian owned and made products there. Want to get your chip fix? They sell all kinds of Covered Bridge flavours, made in New Brunswick. The rest of their options are too expansive to list. Live near Midtown? Try Central Fresh.

6/Groceries contd. Full Circle Foods in DTK also carries a number of local food options. I buy legumes and lentils in bulk from there regularly.

7/Skip St. Jacobs if you dislike crowds and go to the Kitchener Market late Saturday mornings. Crowds will have died down by then and it's when you'll get better prices. You may be able to get enough produce for a week.

Aura-La on Frederick sells pastries but also pantry staples and some fresh/frozen products, all of which are at least Canadian, but often hyper local from the region
