Thank you! I never live the culture war framing of this issue. You would never describe the civil rights movement or women’s suffrage or any other struggle against oppression that way. So why is trans rights framed that way?

I'm not in New York or the US, and I won't subscribe to a newspaper rarely relevant to me. BlueSky lets me block a lot more selectively and effectively, you may want to think about that when posting links to firewalled local newspaper sites :-)

I am a media critic and journalism educator. I comment on and link to news. It's what I do. You don't have to click. But I have to say I find complaints about paywalls tiring and boring. They're not my walls. If that's all you have to add to the discourse....

Yep. “Culture war” is a euphemism that masks conflicts in a multiracial, pluralistic democracy over extending equal rights, equal justice, & civil liberties to every person — regardless of our race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.

One “side” wants to repeal & reverse civil rights.

What is a better framing? Civil rights. Human rights. Moral panic. Bigotry. And while we're at it, banning books is not "culture war." It is censorship. Journalists: Call these acts what they are, not in the terms set by the instigators.
