The opposition group is called Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham also referred to as HTS. The leader is Abu Mohammad al-Julani.

After reading the article and the linked article, I have to say, it’s still a confusing situation. Even though they are distancing from their al-nusra past, I am not fully convinced.

I would have preferred if the kurdish or democratic opposition would have had more luck.

I agree. That’s why I’m following reliable news sources closely and being very careful about what I choose to say/amplify about the situation. The people of Syria have already suffered so much. I sincerely hope this will turn out to be a positive change for them.
