They can withdraw to better defensive positions as and when their command sees fit, but they can't miraculously leave that area undefended and concentrate elsewhere!!

America has held back Ukraine from fighting the war as it should be fought, whilst Zelensky has refused to mobilise Ukraine into a total war state due to American help.
Ukraine must now start Total War against Russia.
The utter destruction of Kursk is required to force Russians to understand the nature of the war as felt by Ukranians.
Without the threat of us power detering the worst of russia, they can unleash a far more devastating total war on Ukraine than they could ever hope to deliver on russia
The situation will be a lot harder for Ukraine, but if they manage to hold out for the next 2-3 months, Russia will be humiliated, Europe will have had time to fill the support gap, and the US will have lost all its leverage for further blackmail.
I'm not saying this is likely, I'm rather pessimistic for UA's tactical future. But IF they somehow manage to stay the line, they will have hurt Russia AND broken free from US shackles.
