I only managed a single bothy night this year and no camping, although the bothy was empty and I'd intended to bivy beside a loch as part of a fastpack from Braemar to Ballater. I should review my favourite runs of the year.

I’ve sadly never visited or stayed in a bothy. Definitely review your runs Will, it made me feel much better about FOMO in comparison to others.

More exciting than mine. Had a good walking camp near Ross-on-Wye. But most nights in a tent were spent in a sports field near Slough 😆

🤣 it depends on how you define exciting! The Peak District, where I mainly walk, is quite tame by many hill goers standards. At least you got out!

Now you’ve both got me thinking about mine - and the top one was at Loch Etchachan on that perfect weather weekend at the beginning of September. I had the tent door open all night it was so still and warm.

That sounds so good! It’s quite cathartic looking back on the year, as it’s easy to take for granted the opportunity to get out under canvas just a few times a year.

2024 has been a special one for me, as I’ve had the energy to get out for a few weekends after years of being too ill to do that. And hopefully 2025 will let me build on that momentum. Scotland in good weather really is as good as life gets (much though I love, e.g., the Alps and the Lakes).
