The idea that federal workers shouldn’t really count as unemployed is so offensive. Such disdain for public servants.

If the government (local, state, and federal) isn't hiring, that will reduce the number of *new jobs reported*
Absolutely those numbers count! Not only that, there will be a ripple effect! We cannot (legally) bend numbers to suit a narrative. We can explain why they are high, and the explanation isn't pretty.
