Youtube at its most banal is still fucking wild in all honesty. content farms stimulate already passive consumers into unbecoming and the content is often about (or for) tormenting children, describing it as molochian in essence fits, i believe.

say, ai cat videos and "the fall of racistpedophile52" scratch an itch that other pablum wouldn't. it's all about endangering a child in some form but more dangerous for it is to turn off the screen and face the vulnerability of silence, the dream is over and theres nowhere else to go
what i think is the takeaway here is that it works on everyone. there's hours of passive consumption waiting to parasitically latch onto the things you hold dear and one day we will look at content farms and think "goodness we truly fucked up!" and know this was pandora's box
also, a lot of people throw "watch Century Of The Self" on this and take that edward bernays is the culprit of all of it but completely miss that the hippie zeitgeist welcomed consumption as an identity with no hesitation. we don't have much qualms about making "slop" to get the bag either.
this sounds like doom and gloom and that we should be running for our lives, but we all have to make or look for something mindless eventually. the actual thing here is just how the mother of invention was boredom and we figured out how easy it is to never be bored again
i sort of came to yap about this after trying to work with myself, a very young relative and a very old relative (and failing) - boredom is really, really good. the best things you're ever going to make come out of boredom.
