Yeah, that was the first thing I tried when I saw your earlier post, but it looks like you can only submit edits for smaller things like parks, businesses, streets, and local locations (which I do all the time). Anything from names of cities on up can't have edits suggested.

What's really funny is that they only changed the label. It's still not a useful search term. If you search for "Gulf of America" on Google or Google Maps, you're shown the US Gulf Coast, not the Gulf itself.

According to Wikipedia, what label you get depends on where you live.

Even in legitimate cases they don't seem to care if the name is wrong. There are many naming errors of water bodies in my state and I have never been able get them fixed. It will be interesting to see what happens on a more authorities platform like OpenStreetmap where users can edit.

Interesting. If I navigate over to the Gulf it says there are no reviews. If I search “Gulf of Mexico” it brings it up as “Gulf of America” and there are thousands of reviews but the most recent ones say they are from a month ago.
