Not often I get to be a pedant on here: I believe the Suffragists and Suffragettes existed at the same time, the former being the peaceful protest movement, and the latter being the militant one.

True. I don't know when or why Suffragist stopped being widely used. Growing up I only heard of the Suffragettes for all campaigners. It's pleasing to see both terms being recognised again these days, especially as the Suffragists wanted to distance themselves from the Suffragettes.

You could be referring to either side of this issue, and there's the problem. The extremes on both sides were unwilling to engage in discussion around a complex subject, instead resorting to insults and positions of moral purity.

It is insidious. Was talking to an otherwise liberal, sensible person last week who found himself agreeing with the AfD about gender reassignment and puberty blockers. (He is a devout Christian). I swear it's a gateway to fascism.
