I have an entire warning to artists about trying to sell me art in DMs (basically DON'T!) as an Image and the no-image in DMs thing has been a massive hang up for me personally!

You can, the chat settings are at the center of the bottom menu on the screen. If you have it set so anyone can message you and vice-versa, there should be a chat icon close to their profile Follow/Following status. Otherwise it will show up only to those you follow.
Great to see this, I know some people were saying they're pretty much still only using Twitter for group chats so guess they won't need to do that for much longer 😆
