It’s annoying that even legitimate criticism of Israel is deliberately construed as anti-semitism.

But…I can tell that any “goodwill” that Israel previously had is bascially evaporating at a rate I haven’t seen in years.

But as for why they have an outsized influence in American politics? 💵

They're what the Christian/nationalist right wants to make the entire world. Fellow travelers who provide ideological and material support and a flag to rally around, no different than Rhodesia or South Africa.

There's a LOT of reasons, but for brevity
- Location makes it a key to maintaining US hegemony, especially in such a hostile region.
- Listening directly benefits those in power here in the US, both politically and monetarily.
- And Christian Nationalism and Christian Zionistism overlap completely.

I grew up in a very pro Israel Jewish household. We're only 2 generations out from the Holocaust. A lot of people see unwavering support for Israel as writing a wrong of history. And to be fair for many years the Israelis did try to good faith end the conflict.

But Israel has gotten so different under Netanyahu. I don't think my parents or their friends have come to appreciate that this is a very different country since Camp David. I think people like Joe Biden still have a romantic notion of a post colonial democracy in the middle east.

It's effectively an authoritarian theocracy of sorts now. We're kind of tied to the hip through a combination of history and circumstance. Even if we fully divested (which we should) they're just gonna figure out someone else to buy arms from. They are a much stronger economy than South Africa was.

I will say antisemitism is definitely present in these protest spaces. Definitely not anywhere the levels the media wants you to think but it's there and I've experienced it myself. It's a major reason why I limit my activism to donations and sharing books/articles.

they've dictated our free speech and civil rights, influenced an election, theyre not impartial and have a clear incentive to extract wealth and weapons from us.
